Brace out to bounce back

Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 09:00

MANAGER Deryn Brace aims to iron out defensive mistakes ahead of Carmarthen Town's trip to NEWI Cefn Druids on Saturday (2.30pm).

Poor defending marred a good performance as Town lost 3-2 to high-flying TNS last weekend.

And Brace will work to shore up his rearguard before making the long trip north.

"We have to defend better," he said after Saturday's match, when he also criticised the referee for allowing Jon Toner's late winner to stand at Richmond Park.

"The players have performed excellently against one of the best sides in the league but are distraught after being denied what could have been three points.

"He (the referee) denied us a blatant penalty when Jamal (Easter) was hauled down and their winner should have been a free-kick to us, not a corner to them after Jamal was fouled.

"The referee spoke to the player concerned and why he didn't award us a free-kick is a mystery.

"It's very frustrating. I have asked him to watch the television replay and ring me to apologise."

Tim Hicks and Paul Fowler put the Old Gold 2-1 in front against the New Saints after Craig Williams had opened the visitors' account and Alex Darlington levelled on the hour mark.

Carmarthen are sweating on the fitness of Mark Dodds for the match at Newi after he was forced off through injury on Saturday.

"Doddsy is an inspirational and dominant personality and to lose his services meant that we had to make several adjustments to our defence and midfield," added Brace.
