But the Neath side showed why they are undefeated in division three south west.
The visitors had territorial advantage and an abundance of possession for long periods of the game, but lacked a cutting edge.
And it was not until late into the second half that they were able to penetrate a well-organised Kidwelly defence.
With the advantage of a slight breeze in their favour, Glynneath went on the offensive and deservedly took the lead in the 15th minute with a 35-metre penalty by full-back Simon Lloyd.
Kidwelly struck back immediately, a quickly taken tap-penalty by scrum-half Rhys Jones split the visitors defence and he linked with lock William Russell who ran strongly before passing to flanker Thomas Taylor who scored near the posts.
Fly-half Leighton Walters converted.
Within three minutes the home lead was cut to one point when Simon Lloyd was successful with another penalty.
Kidwelly restored their four-point advantage with a Walters penalty, and on the half hour they further increased their lead when wing Richard Gravell slipped a clever inside pass to fellow wing Andy Francis, who ran 25 metres and broke two tackles to score midway out. Walters added the extra points.
Lloyd was off target with two penalties for the visitors, but he made amends close to half-time, with a penalty.
It was well into the second half before there was any more scoring and it was Glynneath who made the breakthrough.
A barnstorming run by centre Ben Powell saw him break three tackles to score an unconverted try.
With 10 minutes remaining Kidwelly seemingly put the game safe when full-back Owain Jenkins chased his own clever kick ahead to touch down midway out. Walters converted.
But Glynneath would not lie down and with five minutes remaining they were rewarded for their enterprise with an unconverted try by flanker Jamie Walker.
With their lead cut to five points the home team had to endure a nervous final few minutes, but their defence stood firm to ensure that their name went in the hat for the fourth-round draw.
